Robert Lee Hanks

Elder Robert Lee Hanks was born on a plantation in Tifton, Georgia on June 15, 1930 to Selma Hanks and Jeffie Hanks Hamilton. Robert was a sharecropper most of his young adult life, as a teenager he began an amateur boxing career until a knock-out, changed his mind and he moved to Florida.  Moving to Florida proved to be the best decision of his life. 

In 1949, he would meet the love of his life Hattie Mabel Dingle and marry her on June 19. He said, “The moment that I saw her walking across that dirt road I knew she would be my wife.” On June 19, 2020, Robert and Hattie celebrated 71 years of marriage, proving that one moment can turn into a lifetime. From this Holy matrimony brought forth, 5 beautiful children: Barbara, Robert, John (Lillie), Gloria (Charles-deceased) and Cindy (Sean).  He worked for many years in Marion and Lake County schools and retired in 1992. After retirement Robert continued being a radiant light in his family, community, and church. 

On July 15, 2020 Elder Robert Hanks, decided that his work down here was done, and that he was destined to see his Lord and Savior face to face. Robert is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, and son-in-law. Robert was a faithful member of Holy Band Healing and Deliverance Center.  The patriarch of his family, church, and community.  Elder Robert Lee Hanks leaves behind, his wife Hattie, sister Dorothy, his 5 children, 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and 3 god-daughters.  Elder Hanks also leaves an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends.
