Dr. Roger C. Peek passed away peacefully in Gainesville, FL from complications after a lengthy battle with cancer on July 3, 2020.
Born in Macon, GA to Dr. Ralph and Ruth Peek.
He moved to Gainesville, Florida from Manchester, GA in 1959 when his father accepted a position as a history professor at the University of Florida.
Roger graduated from Gainesville High School in 1964 where he was a baseball player and the Junior Class President. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He later went on to earn his PhD from UF in Educational Leadership. Roger retired from the Florida Department of Corrections in Tallahassee, FL where he was an administrator of the Education Department.
Roger was a devoted Florida Gator and lifelong Baptist with a keen sense of humor and kind heart. He enjoyed hiking with his dogs, watching baseball, and debating politics.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Kimball (Kyle) and Sarah Shaw (Wes); sister, Rebecca Peek Thomsen; 5 grandchildren: Caroline, Hayden & Maren Kimball and Caroline and William Shaw; nephews, Blaine Moore (Andreea) and Stephen Moore; & former wife, Merja Tukia.
Private graveside service at Forest Meadows Cemetery, Gainesville, FL to be held on July 23, 2020.
